Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has said he will not immediately honour an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of naira abuse linked to his son’s naming ceremony. The singer disclosed this in a series of videos posted on his Instagram page, revealing that he had received an official invitation from the anti-graft agency following claims that he sprayed and mishandled the naira during the family celebration held in May. Portable stated that his lawyer would respond to the EFCC on his behalf, adding that he does not intend to appear before the commission until September due to concerns over insecurity and economic hardship in the country. According to him, the decision was not an attempt to evade investigation but was based on legal advice and the need to prioritise the safety of his family. The singer quest...

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has has reportedly directed the immediate closure of all public and private schools within the council area following rising security concerns. Adegoroye reportedly announced the decision during a press briefing in Akure, describing the move as a precautionary measure aimed at protecting pupils, students, teachers, and other education workers from potential security threats. According to the council chairman, the directive became necessary in response to growing fears over the safety of lives and property within the local government area. He, however, clarified that candidates currently participating in national examinations would still be allowed access to their schools strictly for examination purposes. The proposed N100,000 national minimum wage being considered by state governors has sparked strong criticism from organised labour, with the Nigeria Labour Congress declaring the figure grossly inadequate in the face of Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis. Speaking on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Benson Upah, rejected the proposal and insisted that Nigerian workers deserve nothing less than N1 million monthly to survive the harsh economic realities confronting citizens across the country. Upah was reacting to comments made by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who disclosed that governors were considering a new national minimum wage of N100,000 amid rising inflation and increasing living costs. According to AbdulRazaq, state governments were already consulting with the Federal Government and organised labour ...

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has come under criticism after awarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration a “100 percent performance score” despite renewed insecurity in parts of the state. Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), gave the assessment during a Sallah visit by APC governors to President Tinubu in Lagos, where he praised the President for allegedly rescuing Nigeria from collapse and restoring stability through economic reforms. “We have assessed your performance, Mr President, and I’m happy to announce that we have scored it 100 per cent,” Uzodimma said during the meeting. However, barely a day after the comment, insecurity concerns again dominated discussions in Imo State following fresh reports of kidnappings and violent attacks. One of the latest incidents involved the kidnapping of 17-year-old Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) st...

Fear and uncertainty have gripped residents of Oyo State following the declaration of an indefinite strike by the Nigeria Union Of Teachers (NUT)  over the worsening wave of insecurity and the continued captivity of abducted teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area. The nationwide directive, issued by the national leadership of the union, orders all public primary and secondary school teachers across Oyo State to withdraw their services from Monday, June 1, 2026, until the safety of teachers and students can be guaranteed. The decision comes amid outrage and growing tension after armed attackers stormed schools in Oriire LGA on May 15, abducting several students, teachers, and a school principal during coordinated attacks that have continued to send shockwaves across the state. In a strongly worded circular signed by NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, alongside Se...

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has sparked fresh political debate after describing Nigerian politicians as “Goliaths” obstructing the nation’s progress and calling on citizens to find a “David” capable of rescuing the country ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obi made the remarks during a youth conference held in Abuja and organised by Rev. Fr. John Chinenye Oluoma of the Abuja Archdiocese, where discussions centred on empowering young Nigerians to confront the nation’s political, economic and social challenges. Speaking at the conference themed around the biblical story of David and Goliath, Obi accused many politicians of prioritising personal interests above national development, insisting that corruption and abuse of public resources remain major obstacles to Nigeria’s growth. According to him, politicians who divert public funds for personal gain have become the “Goliaths” preven...
