The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to forthwith upload and utilise the modified digital logo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as contained in the party’s constitution.

The judgment was delivered yesterday by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik in a suit filed by the NDC seeking to compel INEC to recognise and use the party’s constitutionally approved modified logo instead of the association logo under which the party was originally registered.

According to the party, its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting approved the modified logo and forwarded it to INEC, which initially uploaded the logo before subsequently removing it without communicating any reason for the decision.

The development prompted the party to approach the court after, according to its leadership, INEC failed to address the matter despite being given sufficient time to do so.

Welcoming the judgment, the NDC commended the judiciary for what it described as a timely intervention and for upholding its legitimate position.

The party also called on its candidates and members to immediately begin using the constitutionally approved modified logo on campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.

It acknowledged that some candidates may have already produced campaign materials bearing the previous logo, saying it regretted the inconvenience caused by the change.

The party explained that both logos carry the two-finger victory sign but stressed that candidates should now transition to the modified digital logo approved under the party’s constitution, which it described as the authentic and more widely recognised NDC logo.

The NDC further urged its members not to panic over the development, assuring them that the party has experienced and strategic leaders capable of navigating the situation.

While describing the controversy surrounding the logo as part of the administrative challenges it has continued to face, the party declared that it would not retreat from legal and democratic battles.

The party said it would issue a formal statement and embark on wider publicity to guide its candidates and members, as well as sensitise the voting public ahead of the elections.

It urged all members, candidates and supporters to remain patient, united and focused on the party’s objectives.

“Together, we remain focused in SERVICE. Together, we move forward. NDC all the way!” the statement added.
