The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reportedly introduced robotic surgery to Nigeria through its Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV) healthcare facility.
RHV has acquired two robotic surgery systems, with one designated for clinical procedures and the other specifically for training Nigerian medical professionals in robotic-assisted surgery.
The facility is expected to provide robotic-assisted procedures across several specialties, including urology, general surgery, gynaecology, colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery and hepatobiliary surgery.
As part of the initiative, Redeemer’s Health Village is also establishing a Robotic Academy to develop local expertise in the emerging field. Training at the academy is reportedly expected to commence in October.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of RHV, the initiative could significantly reduce the cost of advanced surgical care for Nigerians, with some procedures potentially costing as little as five per cent of what patients may pay for similar treatment in the United States or Europe.
The development is being described as a significant step toward expanding access to advanced surgical technology in Nigeria while also strengthening the capacity of local medical professionals through specialised training.
