A lovely and remarkable moment has captured public attention in Warri, Delta State, as the Olu of Warri Kingdom, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, took to an electric scooter to personally inspect preparations for his forthcoming fifth coronation anniversary.

The monarch carried out the on-the-spot inspection on Saturday morning in Okere, Warri, as part of his fitness routine, riding through the area on an electric scooter accompanied by members of his security team.

The unusual but increasingly familiar sight of the traditional ruler moving around on a scooter drew cheers and admiration from residents and other members of the public who encountered him during the inspection.

According to a post shared on the monarch's Facebook page, the exercise was part of his morning fitness regimen and provided an opportunity for him to assess firsthand the level of preparation for the upcoming anniversary celebration.

The scene has generated considerable reactions on social media, with several Nigerians praising the monarch for what they described as his accessibility, simplicity and willingness to move among the people.

One social media user, Iniobong Esen, commended the approach, arguing that leaders should be able to move freely among their people and observe their living conditions directly. Another commenter, Avwerosuo Amos Govina, described the monarch as a king with “class and charisma,” while Enujeke Prosper referred to him as the “Digital King with a difference.”

Who Is Ogiame Atuwatse III?

Ogiame Atuwatse III, born Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, is the current Olu of Warri Kingdom and the 21st monarch of the historic Itsekiri kingdom. He was born on April 2, 1984, and is the son of the late Olu Atuwatse II.

He ascended the throne in 2021 and was crowned on August 21, 2021, succeeding Ogiame Ikenwoli I. His reign has been associated with efforts to project the Warri Kingdom and its cultural heritage while also embracing modern approaches to leadership and public engagement.

The Warri Kingdom's official records identify Ogiame Atuwatse III as the organiser of the kingdom's major coronation anniversary activities. The kingdom's third coronation anniversary, known as Uge-Oyo-Ekoro, was held on August 21, 2024.

A Monarch Known For His Scooter Rides

Saturday's appearance was not the first time Ogiame Atuwatse III has attracted attention by choosing an electric scooter instead of a conventional motorcade.

In March 2025, the monarch rode a scooter through his ancestral home of Ode-Itsekiri, where residents welcomed him enthusiastically. In December 2025, he also used an electric scooter while inspecting a newly completed road project in Delta State.

His latest ride, however, has a special significance as it came during preparations for the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

Fifth Anniversary Ahead

With the monarch's coronation anniversary approaching on August 21, activities are expected to commemorate five years of Ogiame Atuwatse III's reign over the Warri Kingdom.

For many observers, the sight of the Olu personally inspecting preparations on a scooter offered more than a moment of amusement. It also presented an image of a traditional institution adapting to contemporary times while maintaining direct contact with its people.

As the countdown to the fifth coronation anniversary continues, the Warri Kingdom is expected to witness a series of activities celebrating the monarch, the Itsekiri heritage and the enduring institution of the Olu of Warri.
