The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, with 1,200,514 candidates achieving credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Announcing the results on Wednesday, the Head of WAEC's Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination across Nigeria and other participating countries. Of this figure, 61.54 per cent met the benchmark commonly required for admission into tertiary institutions. The performance represents a 1.42 percentage-point decline compared to the 2025 examination.

WAEC further revealed that 1,687,378 candidates (86.50%) obtained credits in at least five subjects with or without English Language and Mathematics. Female candidates slightly outnumbered their male counterparts among those who met the key admission requirement.

The examination body also announced that the results of 167,486 candidates have been withheld over allegations of examination malpractice. According to WAEC, the affected cases are undergoing investigation, after which appropriate decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates.

Candidates whose results have been released have been advised to check them through WAEC's official result-checking platform using their examination number, result checker PIN, and serial number.

The release of the 2026 WASSCE results marks the conclusion of another major examination cycle, providing thousands of candidates with the opportunity to proceed with admissions into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria and beyond.

The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned.
