The political reconciliation between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has taken a fresh turn, as Wike welcomed the governor back into his political camp, describing the move as a step in the right direction.

Speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja, Wike said politics should not be viewed through the lens of permanent disagreement, insisting that “there is no sin in politics” when leaders recognise mistakes and return to the right path.

The FCT Minister said Fubara’s decision to publicly reconnect with the political family that produced him was a welcome development, adding that the reconciliation would strengthen efforts to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I said during my last media chat that he had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him. I have now been informed that he has made that declaration publicly, and we welcome him,” Wike stated.

“Our doors are open. Everyone is welcome for us to work together. There is no better alternative. We will all work together to move the state forward.”

Reacting to questions on whether Fubara’s return amounted to forgiveness after months of political disagreements, Wike dismissed the idea of wrongdoing in politics.

“I don’t know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. Politics is not a sin,” he said.

The minister added that reconciliation within the political family would help strengthen mobilisation for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

“He has publicly stated that he has returned to where he started, and we receive him with an open mind. We will all work together to ensure that we deliver the votes President Tinubu needs for his re-election,” Wike said.

The reconciliation comes after months of political tension between Wike and Fubara, who had been at the centre of a major political crisis in Rivers State. The latest development has been described by political observers as a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

Meanwhile, Wike also used the occasion to speak on infrastructure development in Abuja, where he inspected major road projects including the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, saying the projects would open up new areas for development and improve connectivity within the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the completion of inherited projects remains a priority of the Tinubu administration, noting that responsible leadership requires continuity rather than abandoning projects started by previous governments.

“Leadership requires continuity. Some people assume office and say they will only focus on projects they initiated. That is not leadership,” Wike stated.

He assured that the FCT Administration would continue to monitor ongoing projects and meet its obligations to contractors to ensure timely completion.
