The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced its readiness to embark on a major nationwide struggle aimed at securing a comprehensive review of the national minimum wage, while also pushing for the establishment of a national minimum pension for retirees.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners Legacy House and Multipurpose Hall in Abuja, NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, said organised labour would no longer discuss the welfare of workers without giving equal attention to the welfare of pensioners.

Ajaero described it as unjust for Nigerians who devoted their productive years to public service to retire into poverty, stressing that the country's worsening economic conditions have made existing pensions inadequate.

He said the Congress was already preparing for a major national campaign to demand an improved minimum wage and a pension system that guarantees retirees a dignified standard of living.

According to him, the rising cost of food, healthcare, transportation and other essential services has placed enormous hardship on both workers and pensioners, making urgent reforms necessary.

The labour leader urged members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) to remain united and prepared for the struggle ahead, noting that the newly commissioned Legacy House should serve not only as an administrative facility but also as a centre for mobilisation and strategic engagement.

Ajaero also called on workers and pensioners to strengthen their solidarity, arguing that only a united labour movement can compel government to fulfil its obligations to serving employees and retirees.

He further demanded the immediate payment of all outstanding pension arrears and the implementation of policies that will ensure every retiree enjoys financial security and dignity after years of service to the nation.

The NLC reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the fight until Nigerian workers and pensioners receive improved welfare, justice and the respect they deserve.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route. Local authorities are expected to begin investigations into the incident.
