Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete, a medical doctor and youth leader, has emerged as the 10th President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, following a keenly contested national elective convention held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Okotete secured 71 votes out of 115 accredited delegates, defeating his closest rival, Bob Collins Igetei, who polled 22 votes, while other contestants shared the remaining votes. The Chairman of the IYC National Electoral Committee (ELECO), Dr. Charles German Ikimi, officially declared him the winner and President-elect of the Council's 10th National Executive Council.

A trained medical doctor, Dr. Okotete is widely known within the Ijaw nation for his advocacy on youth development, peace, leadership, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta. During his campaign, he pledged to unite Ijaw youths, strengthen the IYC as a credible voice for the Niger Delta, promote youth empowerment, and deepen engagement with governments, traditional rulers, and development partners.

Before the election, Dr. Okotete participated in the IYC presidential manifesto and debate alongside other presidential aspirants, where he presented his vision for repositioning the organisation and advancing the interests of Ijaw youths at home and in the diaspora.

His victory has been welcomed by several Ijaw organisations, youth groups, stakeholders, and leaders, who described his emergence as a mandate for purposeful leadership. They expressed confidence that his academic background, professional experience as a medical doctor, and leadership qualities would help foster unity, transparency, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Ijaw communities.

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide remains the foremost socio-cultural youth organisation representing Ijaw youths across the Niger Delta and the diaspora. Expectations are high that Dr. Okotete's administration will build on the achievements of previous leadership while championing the rights, welfare, and aspirations of the Ijaw people.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route. Local authorities are expected to begin investigations into the incident.
