President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that his administration is working to clear the backlog of pension liabilities inherited from previous governments.
Tinubu said the payment of outstanding pensions and other financial obligations demonstrates his commitment to addressing longstanding challenges rather than ignoring them. According to the President, his administration is focused on restoring confidence in governance by settling debts owed to retirees and implementing reforms aimed at improving public finance.
The President accused Atiku and other opposition figures of criticizing his government despite what he described as their role in creating many of the economic and fiscal challenges currently facing the country.
Tinubu maintained that his administration remains committed to ensuring that pensioners receive their entitlements while pursuing policies designed to stabilize the economy and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The exchange adds to the growing political rivalry between the President and the former Vice President as political debates continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
