The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide is set to inaugurate its newly elected National Executive Council (NEC), following the emergence of Comrade Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete as the organisation's 10th Worldwide President at the just-concluded elective convention held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Dr. Okotete was elected after polling 71 votes in an election conducted by the Dr. Charles Ikimi-led National Electoral Committee (ELECO). His victory marked the end of the council's electoral process, which attracted delegates from Ijaw communities across the Niger Delta.

According to the outgoing Worldwide President, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, the formal inauguration and handover ceremony for the newly elected executive has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The event is expected to officially usher in the 10th National Executive Council to oversee the affairs of the apex Ijaw youth body.

The inauguration is expected to attract prominent Ijaw leaders, traditional rulers, political office holders, former IYC presidents, youth organisations and delegates from chapters across the Niger Delta region.

The transition comes amid renewed reconciliation efforts within the council after years of internal divisions. In the build-up to the convention, members of a breakaway faction led by Dr. Alaye Tari Theophilus rejoined the mainstream leadership, a development widely welcomed by stakeholders as a major breakthrough in the quest to reunite the organisation.

Ahead of the inauguration, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, urged the outgoing and incoming leadership to place the interest of the Ijaw nation above personal ambitions. The governor called on all factions to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation, stressing that a united IYC would be better positioned to champion the aspirations of Ijaw youths and the sustainable development of the Niger Delta.

The incoming administration, led by Dr. Okotete, is expected to focus on youth empowerment, peace building, environmental justice, economic opportunities, education, and stronger advocacy on issues affecting Ijaw communities across the region.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the inauguration of the new executive will mark the beginning of a new era of stability, unity and purposeful leadership for the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, strengthening its role as the foremost voice of Ijaw youths both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route. Local authorities are expected to begin investigations into the incident.
