𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.

A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has successfully completed a 144-hour Bible reading marathon in a bid to set a new Guinness World Record.

The six-day endurance challenge ended on June 29 after Habibat continuously read the Holy Bible aloud in accordance with Guinness World Records guidelines, which permit only limited breaks for essential needs.

The initiative, tagged "144 Hours in the Word," was designed not only as a record attempt but also to encourage Christians to deepen their commitment to studying the Scriptures and strengthen their faith.

According to reports, Habibat's journey toward the record began in 2022, following years of preparation, discipline and dedication.

The marathon took place at the Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, under the supervision of Guinness World Records regulations. Throughout the challenge, she received support from family members, friends, church members and other well-wishers, while many others followed her progress online.

A member of Summit Bible Church, Port Harcourt, Habibat's attempt was described by the church's Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe, as a spiritual mission aimed at exalting God's Word and inspiring believers around the world.

Videos from the event showed Habibat reading from a lectern while digital timers monitored the duration of the marathon.

Her attempt comes after Nigerian Samson Ajao was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 for setting the world's longest marathon reading aloud with 215 hours, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours.

Habitat's 144-hour Bible reading marathon will now undergo the official Guinness World Records verification process before any record can be formally confirmed.
