𝗕𝗬 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗧𝗔 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘,

𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.

The Federal Government has approved a far-reaching reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), marking the most significant overhaul of the scheme since its establishment in 1973.

The reforms, approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), are designed to transform the NYSC into a modern, skills-driven and career-oriented programme that better equips Nigerian graduates for employment, entrepreneurship and national development.

One of the major changes is the extension of the orientation camp from the current three weeks to six weeks. The new orientation programme will be divided into three phases. The first two weeks will focus on civic responsibility, national values, leadership development and nation-building. The second phase will cover career mapping, financial literacy, business planning, entrepreneurship and access to finance, while the final two weeks will provide specialised career training.

As part of the restructuring, the NYSC will adopt a civilian-led management system, replacing the long-standing military leadership model. However, military personnel will continue to provide security and support during orientation camps and corps members' deployment.

Under the new framework, every prospective corps member will choose one of 11 specialised career streams during registration. These include Agric Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Tech and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Enterprise Corps, Creative Economy Corps, and Paramilitary and Security Corps.

The specialised streams will equip corps members with practical skills tailored to their chosen fields. Expected areas of training include precision agriculture, livestock and agribusiness management; primary healthcare, public health and emergency response; modern teaching methods and educational technology; software development, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud computing, web and mobile app development; legal research, mediation and legal aid services; public administration, policy implementation and project management; civil engineering support, construction technology and infrastructure maintenance; renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, waste management and environmental sustainability; entrepreneurship, business development, financial management and access to funding; filmmaking, animation, digital content creation, photography, graphics design, fashion, music and the creative arts; as well as disaster management, community policing, emergency preparedness and civil defence support.

In addition, corps members' Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) will be aligned more closely with their academic qualifications and selected career streams to improve practical experience and enhance employability.

Other approved reforms include a fully technology-driven call-up process, risk-sensitive deployment to improve the safety and welfare of corps members, upgraded orientation camps through a national grading system, and the introduction of redesigned NYSC uniforms aimed at promoting professionalism and national identity.

The Federal Government also announced that the traditional Passing Out Parade (POP) will be replaced with a formal graduation ceremony. Selected participants, including members of the proposed Digital Corps, may also receive professional certifications in their respective areas of training before deployment.

To facilitate implementation, the Federal Government has directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Youth Development to commence the process of amending the NYSC Act and other relevant regulations.

Officials said the comprehensive reforms are expected to strengthen national unity, improve graduate employability, encourage entrepreneurship, promote innovation and equip young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills needed to thrive in today's rapidly evolving economy.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route.
