𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮

Hundreds of women from Gbaramatu Kingdom and several Ijaw communities across the Warri Federal Constituency in Delta State on Thursday staged a large-scale protest, blocking sections of the Gbaramatu River in rejection of the delayed implementation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ward and polling unit delineation report.

The protesters, who occupied strategic points along the waterways, demanded the immediate release and enforcement of the delineation report covering Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North Local Government Areas, following years of legal and political disputes over electoral representation in the area.

Armed with placards and chanting solidarity songs, the women insisted that the report reflects demographic and community realities and must be implemented without further delay. They warned that continued inaction could escalate tensions across the affected communities.

The demonstration reportedly drew participation from multiple Ijaw communities within the constituency, signalling growing collective backing for the implementation of the INEC exercise. Protest leaders maintained that their action is aimed at securing electoral fairness and political inclusion for all stakeholders in the Warri axis.

The protest comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the INEC delineation exercise in the Warri Federal Constituency, which has continued to generate mixed reactions from various ethnic and political groups in Delta State.
