𝗕𝗬 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗧𝗔 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘,
𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive electoral materials and mobilisation of ad hoc staff ahead of the Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Some participants of the just concluded training of Ad hoc staff by INEC in the ondo-south senatorial district have confirmed the receipt of text messages informing them to report for the election at the designated RAC.

Also the distribution of sensitive materials is reportedly ongoing and it's been supervised by INEC officials, security agencies, and representatives of the four political parties participating in the election.

Sensitive materials, including ballot papers, result sheets, and other election documents, were released for deployment to designated locations across the senatorial district.

The bye-election is being conducted to fill the vacant Ondo South senatorial seat following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations by President Bola Tinubu.

Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mutiu Agboke, said INEC had concluded preparations for a credible and peaceful election, adding that non-sensitive materials had earlier been distributed while sensitive materials were being deployed in the presence of stakeholders.

He disclosed that the commission had tested and certified the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for the election and provided backup devices to address possible technical challenges.

Agboke added that INEC had mobilised and trained ad hoc personnel who would support the conduct of the election across the polling units.

A total of 673,446 registered voters are expected to participate in the election across 1,354 polling units and 66 registration areas covering Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Odigbo, and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Areas.

The four political parties contesting the election are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Boot Party.

The REC urged political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to maintain transparency and peaceful conduct before, during, and after the election.

He warned against vote-buying, violence, intimidation of voters, and harassment of electoral officials, stressing that the outcome of the poll would be determined by the votes of the people.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) expressed confidence in INEC’s readiness to deliver a credible election, while party representatives called for early arrival of materials at polling units on election day.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route. Local authorities are expected to begin investigations into the incident.
