At least eight persons have reportedly lost their lives following a deadly attack on Abacheke community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to reports, the armed assailants emerged from nearby bushes and launched an attack on a security checkpoint in the community. During the assault, several houses were set ablaze, while multiple casualties, including security personnel, were recorded.

The incident has sparked panic and heightened tension among residents, many of whom have fled their homes for fear of further attacks.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report. However, efforts are reportedly underway to restore calm and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Residents have called for increased security presence in the area to prevent further violence and protect lives and property.
