Residents and indigenes of Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State have expressed concerns over what they describe as a growing influx of migrants into the ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom, calling on traditional and political authorities to address the situation.

The concerned residents said the increasing number of arrivals, particularly in communities such as Ama-Omu and Abalamabie, has raised security and welfare concerns among members of the kingdom.

According to the residents, many of the newcomers reportedly arrive on the island aboard commercial buses, especially on Sundays. They alleged that there are insufficient checks to determine the identities and intentions of those entering the area.

Some residents expressed fears that criminal elements could exploit the situation, citing security challenges experienced in other parts of the country. However, no official evidence has been presented linking the migrants to any criminal activities.

The indigenes appealed to the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, , traditional chiefs, and the Chairman of , Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, to investigate the matter and provide reassurance to residents.

They also noted that some of the migrants are allegedly sleeping in open spaces due to inadequate accommodation, a development they said highlights both humanitarian and security concerns.

The residents urged the relevant authorities to strengthen monitoring measures, verify the status of new arrivals, and ensure that peace, security, and harmonious coexistence are maintained within the kingdom.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Bonny Kingdom traditional council or the Bonny Local Government Council regarding the concerns raised by residents.
