Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions after the current Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, was reportedly spotted among accredited observers during the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election held on Saturday.

The development generated controversy on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the appearance of a serving state chairman of a major political party in the capacity of an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-accredited observer.

Critics argued that the role of an election observer is expected to be independent and neutral, raising concerns about possible conflict of interest given Tenebe’s leadership position within the APC in Edo State.

Some commentators called for clarification from relevant authorities on the process through which political actors are accredited as observers during elections, while others demanded greater transparency in electoral monitoring arrangements.

Supporters of Tenebe, however, are expected to argue that accreditation by INEC follows established procedures and that the observer role does not automatically translate to interference in the electoral process.

As reactions continue to trail the development, attention has shifted to INEC and stakeholders for further clarification on the circumstances surrounding the accreditation and participation of the Edo APC chairman in the Ekiti governorship election observation exercise.
