The Management of a famous Nigerian University, Abia State University (ABSU) has commenced the screening of First-Class graduates from the 30th–32nd Convocation Ceremonies as part of the process to employ them into the University system.

The screening exercise, held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, followed the directive of the Abia State Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, approving the automatic employment of eligible First-Class graduates who have completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of ABSU, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs.) Roseline Ndimele, commended the graduates for their exceptional academic performance.

She assured that the University Management remains committed to encouraging academic excellence and rewarding outstanding achievements.

Professor Ndimele explained that graduates who have completed their NYSC are qualified to submit the necessary documents for employment processing, while those currently serving or yet to commence their service would be considered after completing the programme.

The Registrar of the University, Dr. Acho Elendu, said the screening was organised in line with Governor Otti’s earlier directive and urged the candidates to follow the stipulated guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth process.

During the 30th–32nd Convocation Ceremony held on March 27, 2026, at the renovated University Pavilion, Governor Otti announced that all First-Class graduates from the three convocation sets would be retained as Graduate Assistants after fulfilling their NYSC obligations.

The Governor also approved postgraduate scholarships for the beneficiaries up to doctorate degree level at any public university of their choice in Nigeria, subject to their acceptance of the teaching appointments offered by the University.

About 38 First-Class graduates from various departments participated in the screening exercise and are expected to receive their employment letters soon, marking the implementation of the Governor’s promise.

One Feared Dead, Another Injured in Ghastly Accident in Agadagba-Obon By NigerDelta Voice Reporters, Ondo State Correspondent. 24th November, 2025 A tragic motor accident occurred earlier today in Agadagba-Obon, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, but community members have called for caution on the increasingly dangerous route. Local authorities are expected to begin investigations into the incident.
