NigerDelta Voice celebrates distinguished academic scholar, researcher, and Professor of Microbiology, Prof. Dauphin Dighitoghi Moro, as he marks another remarkable year of life dedicated to intellectual excellence, scientific advancement, mentorship, and service to humanity.

Prof. Moro’s journey stands as a testament to the power of knowledge, perseverance, and commitment. Born on June 20, 1964, in Ajapa, a historic community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, his life story has grown into an inspiring narrative of academic brilliance and achievement.

From his early years, Prof. Moro demonstrated exceptional determination. Beginning his education at L.A Primary School, Bolowou, and later St. Mary’s U.N.A Primary School, he overcame childhood challenges and emerged as a promising scholar. He continued his education at Methodist High School, Okitipupa, before beginning his early professional journey as an educator.

Driven by a passion for learning and scientific discovery, Prof. Moro pursued higher education in Applied Microbiology at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti, where he graduated with Second Class Upper Division in 1988. He later obtained his Master’s Degree in Microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1992, and earned his Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in Microbiology from the University of Ado-Ekiti in 2003.

His rise within the academic world has been marked by consistency, excellence, and dedication. Prof. Moro joined the university system as an Assistant Lecturer in 1996 and steadily progressed through the ranks, becoming Lecturer I in 2003, Senior Lecturer in 2008, Associate Professor in 2011, and eventually attained the prestigious rank of Professor at Lagos State University (LASU) in 2022.

With nearly three decades of service in academia, Prof. Moro has contributed immensely to teaching, research, administration, and knowledge development. He has served in several academic leadership roles, including Coordinator of postgraduate programmes in Microbiology, Acting Head of Department of Microbiology, and member of important university committees.

As a globally recognised scientist, Prof. Moro has distinguished himself through impactful research and professional engagements. He is a member of respected scientific bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology, Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, and other international organisations.

His contributions to science have earned him recognition beyond Nigeria. He has participated in international conferences, chaired scientific sessions, and received awards for outstanding research presentations, including recognition at an international conference in Dallas, Texas, United States.

Beyond research, Prof. Moro has played a significant role in capacity building and professional development, contributing his expertise to training programmes for senior professionals and organisations.

As an academic mentor, he has supervised hundreds of undergraduate students, postgraduate scholars, and doctoral researchers, helping to shape the next generation of scientists and intellectual leaders.

Outside the university environment, Prof. Moro is admired for his love of writing, reading, sports, and community service. He is widely respected as a prolific writer, devoted scholar, and an individual known for integrity and excellence.
