𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.

The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has unveiled digital identity cards for senior secondary school students across the state as part of efforts to improve security, student records management, and digital transformation in the education sector.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with Toltem International Limited, was launched at the ministry’s conference room and is expected to provide students with unique and verifiable identities.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the digital ID cards would enhance the management of student information, improve security, track enrollment, and strengthen communication among stakeholders in the education sector.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Akindele Ige, the commissioner described the initiative as a major step towards building a secure, efficient, and technology-driven education system in the state.

Ajibefun commended Toltem International Limited for partnering with the government, noting that collaboration between the public and private sectors remains critical to achieving sustainable development in education.

He also appreciated principals, teachers, students, and parents for their support, urging all stakeholders to embrace the initiative for effective implementation across schools.

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director of Inspectorate and Quality Assurance, Prince Olu Obajulaiye, said the digital ID card project aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving accountability, governance, and the overall management of schools.

According to him, the cards would serve multiple purposes, including student identification within and outside school premises, improved security in public secondary schools, accurate record-keeping, prevention of impersonation, and strengthening of examination integrity.

He added that the system would support schools, security agencies, and communities in identifying students, controlling access to school environments, and responding better during emergencies.

The ministry assured that the initiative would be expanded beyond senior secondary schools, with plans to commence digital identification for primary schools and junior secondary school students.

The ministry also pledged to provide proper orientation for school administrators and establish guidelines for the use, replacement, and management of the cards.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to support the programme by ensuring students keep their identity cards safe and use them responsibly.

Speaking on behalf of Toltem International Limited, Mr. Samuel Adedeji said the company was committed to using technology to address challenges in the education sector and create opportunities for growth.

He assured stakeholders of the company’s readiness to ensure smooth deployment and sustainability of the digital ID platform across senior secondary schools in Ondo State.

Adedeji added that the platform would serve as a foundation for future digital education services and innovations aimed at advancing a technology-enabled learning environment.
