Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), , has declared his willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for Nigeria, urging the country’s leadership to take decisive action against insecurity.
Obi made the statement during a podcast interview where he called for a stronger response against non-state actors terrorising communities across the country.
According to him, the priority of the government should be restoring security and rescuing citizens held captive, rather than focusing on future elections.
He said Nigeria must confront criminals with determination, stressing that the state should not allow terrorists and bandits to take control.
«“One person must be in charge. We declare war. If you’re ready to live, you must be ready to die. If you’re not ready to die, go home,” Obi stated.»
When asked if he was personally prepared to die for the nation, the former governor answered in the affirmative, saying he would return to Nigeria even if he was outside the country during a crisis.
He added that Nigeria’s armed forces once played major roles in peacekeeping operations globally but the country now faces a situation where criminal groups operate with increasing confidence.
Obi further argued that discussions about elections should not overshadow the urgent need to secure the lives and freedom of Nigerians, especially children abducted by criminals.
“I cannot talk about the new elections when our kids are in the bush. We will all go there and die with them,” he said.
