A claim circulating online states that human rights activist and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, has been arrested 548 times between 1998 and 2026 — a figure that has drawn attention but could not be independently verified from available records.

Sowore, a long-time pro-democracy campaigner, has documented multiple arrests and detentions linked to protests, activism and criticism of government policies. Records show notable arrests including his detention by the Department of State Services in August 2019 over the #RevolutionNow protest, his re-arrest in December 2019 despite court proceedings, and subsequent detentions connected to demonstrations.

In 2021, he was again arrested during a protest in Abuja, while rights groups described some of his detentions as restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

Sowore himself has repeatedly said he has experienced numerous arrests under democratic rule, arguing that his activism has attracted frequent state pressure. In a later interview, he stated that his arrests during civilian rule exceeded those he experienced under military governments.

However, a verified public record confirming the exact number 548 arrests is not currently available. Existing documented reports confirm several arrests over decades, but not the specific 548 figure.

The deceased, identified simply as Help , reportedly lost his life after the vehicle involved in the incident somersaulted multiple times. Another occupant, identified as Philip Ojuri , sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, throwing the victims from the vehicle as it overturned.
