The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria has commenced applications for its nationwide Free Business Registration Programme, targeting about 250,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.
The initiative, supported by the Federal Government, is designed to reduce the cost burden of formalizing businesses by covering the full registration fees with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
Beneficiaries will receive official CAC documents, providing legal recognition and improved access to funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships.
SMEDAN said the programme is open to entrepreneurs operating unregistered businesses within Nigeria. Applicants are required to submit valid personal information, including their full name, active phone number, and a recognized means of identification for verification purposes.
The agency emphasized that registering a business with the CAC enhances credibility, enables access to corporate banking services, and positions enterprises to benefit from both public and private sector interventions.
Application Process and Portals
Applications are conducted online through SMEDAN’s official digital platforms. Prospective beneficiaries are required to complete their registration using the following portals:
SMEDAN Signup Portal: https://portal.smedan.gov.ng/signup
CAC Information Portal: https://portal.smedan.gov.ng/cac-information
Applicants must first create an account on the signup portal, verify their details, and complete the application form with accurate personal and business information before submission.
SMEDAN noted that all applications will undergo a verification process before successful candidates are enrolled and their businesses registered with the CAC.
The agency advised applicants to ensure that all submitted details correspond with their official identification documents to avoid delays or disqualification.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s MSME sector, improve business documentation, and promote inclusive economic growth.
