Fresh revelations have emerged surrounding the recent abduction attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, exposing how earlier security warnings and growing terrorist activities within forest corridors may have been ignored before the coordinated assault.

The attack, which occurred along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso, sent shockwaves across affected communities after heavily armed terrorists invaded three schools in broad daylight and abducted pupils, teachers and school administrators.

Residents disclosed that fear had already been spreading quietly across nearby settlements weeks before the incident following the January 2026 attack on the Old Oyo National Park near Ikoyi-Ile, where five Forest Guards were reportedly killed by armed groups operating within the forest belt.

According to community sources, handwritten threat messages allegedly surfaced in some villages shortly after the forest attack, warning residents of impending assaults. However, the warnings were said to have been dismissed by many as mere rumours and intimidation tactics.

The latest school abduction has now forced many locals to reconsider those warnings, with residents claiming the attackers appeared to possess detailed knowledge of rural routes, school locations and movement patterns within the area.

Panic reportedly engulfed several communities during the operation as parents rushed from one school to another in search of their children while schools hurriedly shut down academic activities.

The situation became more emotional after reports emerged that a teacher identified as Michael Oyedokun was allegedly killed while in captivity. Disturbing videos of abducted victims pleading for rescue have also circulated widely on social media, triggering outrage and renewed fears among residents.

The incident has further disrupted social and educational activities across affected communities, with attendance dropping sharply in schools as many parents now fear sending their children to classes.

Teachers in some areas have also staged protests demanding stronger security presence and the immediate rescue of abducted victims.

Security sources revealed that investigators are currently probing possible local collaborators suspected of aiding the attackers with information and navigation through the difficult forest terrain.

Traditional rulers, religious leaders and civil society organisations have since condemned the attack, describing it as a dangerous escalation of insecurity in Oyo State and a sign of the growing spread of armed groups into southern parts of the country.

Many residents now fear that isolated rural communities located near forest corridors may remain vulnerable unless surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid security response mechanisms are significantly strengthened.
