The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have confirmed the arrest and detention of personnel involved in a clash between operatives of the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army in Bayelsa State.
NigerDelta Voice had earlier reported that the incident occurred on April 10, 2026, after a viral video surfaced online showing a heated altercation between members of the two military services.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the AFN disclosed that all personnel directly involved have been identified and are currently undergoing administrative and disciplinary procedures in line with existing military regulations.
The military high command described the incident as unfortunate, emphasising that it does not reflect the longstanding relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army. It added that both services continue to work in close coordination and mutual respect while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
According to the statement, additional measures are being implemented to ensure accountability, strengthen inter-service cooperation, and prevent a recurrence.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a unified and professional institution, bound by a common mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation,” the statement read.
The AFN also reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct, urging members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting the military in its efforts to maintain peace and security across the country.
