Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that he will participate in the upcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Convention “in spirit,” as he continues to face trial over alleged corruption charges.

El-Rufai made the remark on Monday while leaving the Kaduna State High Court, where he is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) on a nine-count charge bordering on abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

The former governor, who has reportedly been in detention for over a month, arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. and was seen briefly interacting with a loyalist regarding the ADC convention scheduled to hold in Abuja.

After approximately four hours of court proceedings, El-Rufai exited the courtroom alongside his legal team. When approached by journalists on whether he would attend the convention, he responded succinctly, “I will attend, but in spirit.”

He subsequently departed the court in a Hilux vehicle under tight security, with armed police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) maintaining a strong presence within and around the court.

El-Rufai is standing trial alongside one Amadu Sule, with the charges forming part of an ongoing legal process initiated by the ICPC.
