The Nigerian Military has announced that over 700 repentant terrorists who underwent rehabilitation under Operation Safe Corridor are set to be reintegrated into society.
Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Yusuf Ali, disclosed this during a media tour of facilities at the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Centre in Gombe, North-East Nigeria.
He explained that many Nigerians lack adequate understanding of the Federal Government’s structured counter-terrorism programme under Operation Safe Corridor, noting that the initiative is aimed at restoring peace in communities affected by terrorism across the country.
Brigadier-General Ali also dismissed claims that clients of the programme are being recruited into military institutions, stressing that the focus remains on deradicalising, rehabilitating, and preparing them for peaceful reintegration into their communities.
During the media tour, some of the clients at the camp shared accounts of their involvement in offences that led to their admission into the programme.
The visit forms part of preparations for the graduation ceremony of the over 700 clients who have completed the rehabilitation process and are considered ready to return to civilian life.
