A wave of tributes has greeted former militant leader and Niger Delta figure, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, as he marks his 55th birthday, with top government officials celebrating his enduring influence on peace and development in Nigeria.
Leading the accolades, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), High Chf. Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, described the Tantita boss as a “foremost freedom fighter, patriot, and distinguished son of the Niger Delta.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, Otuaro praised Tompolo’s remarkable transformation from a former militant commander to a respected nation-builder, noting that his contributions have significantly reshaped the security and economic landscape of the oil-rich region.
According to the PAP boss, Tompolo’s leadership of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has played a decisive role in stabilizing the Niger Delta, curbing oil theft, and boosting Nigeria’s crude oil output to approximately 1.8 million barrels per day.
He further highlighted the massive socio-economic impact of Tantita’s operations, revealing that the company has created employment opportunities for over 45,000 youths across the region—an intervention widely seen as a critical factor in sustaining peace and reducing restiveness.
Beyond security, Otuaro commended the ex-militant leader’s growing footprint in humanitarian and educational development, particularly his scholarship initiatives that continue to support indigent students in accessing higher education.
“Tompolo’s story is one of transformation, resilience, and service. His contributions clearly show that strategic collaboration between the Federal Government and indigenous stakeholders can deliver tangible results,” Otuaro stated.
The PAP Administrator also acknowledged Tompolo’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting his continued support for policies aimed at driving sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
Describing him as a mentor, philanthropist, and symbol of regional pride, Otuaro said Tompolo remains “a huge asset not only to the Ijaw nation but to Nigeria as a whole.”
As celebrations continue, he offered prayers for continued strength, good health, and long life for the influential Niger Delta leader, whose legacy, he noted, continues to inspire a new generation.
