The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that there will be no extension for the registration of candidates for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
In a statement issued by NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Dantani Wushishi, the council urged schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants to ensure timely completion of the registration process.
According to the council, the deadline for normal registration is May 25, 2026, while late registration will close on May 29, 2026. NECO emphasized that no further extension will be granted beyond these dates.
The examination body stressed that strict adherence to the deadlines is essential for the smooth conduct of the SSCE. It warned that failure to register within the stipulated period could prevent candidates from sitting for the examination, thereby affecting their academic progression.
NECO reiterated that the SSCE remains a critical national examination that determines students’ eligibility for tertiary education, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.
The council added that the directive is part of ongoing efforts to streamline examination processes and ensure effective planning for the 2026 examination cycle.
