A coalition of Niger Delta youth leaders has announced plans to mobilise approximately 10 million youths from the region’s 185 local government areas to converge in Degema, Rivers State, on April 12, 2026, for a mass rally aimed at demonstrating their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt, the coalition’s National Leader, Mujiton Adokiye, said the rally is intended to enhance youth participation in governance. He highlighted that, despite the Not Too Young To Run Act, opportunities for young leaders across the Niger Delta remain limited.
“Most communities today are already lit up with solar streetlights thanks to NDDC initiatives,” Adokiye said, praising ongoing projects under NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku. He added that additional development interventions are planned to improve living conditions in rural areas.
Backing the coalition’s position, Alfred Etuk credited federal development commissions, including the South‑South Development Commission, with driving infrastructure and social improvements in the Niger Delta. He noted that presidential initiatives have contributed to reducing youth unrest and fostering regional peace, while affirming support for Ogbuku’s leadership at the NDDC.
Meanwhile, Comrade Oke Osoh commended government efforts but stressed the importance of continued attention to security. “Security is everyone’s responsibility. While progress has been made, sustained focus on national and regional security remains essential,” he said.
