Some of Nigeria’s finest golfers alongside promising young talents are expected to converge on the scenic Canaanland Golf Course and Country Club as the club celebrates its second anniversary with a major tournament scheduled for April 25, 2026.
Chairman of the club and Chief Executive Officer of Akogate Group, Felix Aganbi, unveiled the plans on Friday, describing the anniversary competition as a high-profile sporting event that will feature both amateur and professional golfers from within and outside Nigeria.
According to Aganbi, the one-day tournament will not only showcase elite golfing skills but will also provide a platform for emerging players to compete for prize money and gain valuable exposure.
The anniversary event, powered by Sir Alfred Temile and Mrs. Warami Temile, is aimed at strengthening the development of golf in Nigeria while creating economic and tourism opportunities for Koko town and the wider Niger Delta region.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Aganbi said the anniversary celebration would attract investors, sports enthusiasts and visitors, while also highlighting the investment potential and cultural heritage of Koko in Delta State.
“On Saturday, April 25, 2026, we will host local and foreign investors, amateur and professional players to celebrate our second anniversary while showcasing the benefits of investing in Koko town and the rich culture of Delta State,” Aganbi stated.
He added that the club is committed to promoting sports development by providing standard sporting facilities and encouraging participation across different sectors of society.
Beyond golf, the anniversary programme will feature other recreational sports including badminton, table tennis and darts, reflecting the club’s broader vision of becoming a multi-sport and social hub.
The celebration will also include a special anniversary ceremony for members and guests, designed to promote networking, social interaction, skill development and wellness.
As part of its community outreach, the club will organize a medical programme offering eye care services and comprehensive health checks at the Christiana Aganbi Sickbay.
Aganbi noted that the event forms part of a larger development vision for the area through the planned Canaan Land Smart City project — a sustainable urban initiative expected to feature eco-friendly residences, a technology hub, wellness facilities and tourism attractions.
He emphasized that the anniversary celebration represents not only a milestone for the club but also a step toward strengthening community ties, promoting healthy living and positioning Koko as a growing destination for sports, tourism and investment in the Niger Delta.
