The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

NigerDelta Voice gathered that the appointment was conveyed in an official document signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
According to the document sighted by NigerDelta Voice, Mrs. Johnson-Okojie was selected in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry and her sustained advocacy in community development and humanitarian services.

Widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, Johnson-Okojie has featured in over 200 films during a career spanning nearly two decades. Her achievements have earned her several awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards.

Beyond the screen, she is respected for her philanthropic initiatives, particularly through her foundation, which focuses on women empowerment, child welfare, educational support, and healthcare outreach. She has consistently used her platform to promote civic responsibility and social awareness.

In her new role, she is expected to deploy her public influence, communication expertise, and grassroots reach to strengthen citizens’ engagement with government policies and programmes across Edo State.

The appointment, according to the document, underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to leveraging the credibility and goodwill of distinguished Nigerians in advancing his administration’s vision for a more inclusive and progressive Edo State.
