The Presidency is reportedly considering disconnecting the Aso Rock Presidential Villa from Nigeria’s national electricity grid, following complaints of excessive billing and persistent epileptic power supply.

NigerDelta Voice gathered that the decision is being considered as part of measures to reduce rising energy costs and ensure a stable electricity supply within the nation’s seat of power.

This development comes amid growing concerns raised at the National Assembly over the State House’s proposed budget allocation, particularly on power-related expenditures.

Speaking during a budget defence session, former Senate President Ahmad Lawan expressed strong displeasure over the reduction of the State House’s requested allocation by the Budget Office of the Federation.

“This is an airport. No, that is unacceptable,” Lawan reportedly stated, while criticizing the downward review of the State House budget.

He directed the Budget Office to urgently reconsider and increase the allocation, insisting that the State House deserved a fair budgetary provision.

“They have to do justice to your request, not by reducing it to a paltry amount that would end up buying a tokunbo,” he added.
Lawan also commended officials of the State House for honoring the committee’s invitation and appearing promptly, describing the gesture as a sign of seriousness and accountability.

“If the State House would appear before this committee as you did, we see no reason why other MDAs will not come. You have led by example,” he said.

The reported move by Aso Rock to consider disconnecting from the national grid has sparked renewed public debate about Nigeria’s worsening electricity crisis, with many Nigerians questioning why citizens should continue to suffer unreliable supply and inflated bills when even the Presidential Villa is reportedly exploring alternative power solutions.

As the situation unfolds, Nigerians are watching closely to see whether the proposed off-grid plan will be implemented and what it could mean for the already troubled national power system.
