Parents and students across Delta State have received a major relief following the state government’s directive banning all illegal levies in public secondary schools.
The order, issued through the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education under the MORE Agenda, instructed school principals and staff to immediately stop collecting unauthorized fees and refund all illegal charges within 72 hours.
The ministry also released the officially approved examination fees for students across the state. According to the directive, the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) fee has been pegged at ₦1,100 for government-sponsored candidates, ₦4,850 for public school repeaters, and ₦5,450 for candidates in private schools.
For the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the approved fee is ₦31,400 for public school candidates and ₦28,400 for private school candidates.
The ministry noted that the fee for the National Examination Council (NECO) examination will be announced later.
Officials warned that any amount collected above the approved rates must be refunded without delay, stressing that the state government will not tolerate extortion or exploitation of parents under any guise.
The ministry added that monitoring and enforcement measures have been intensified across Delta State to ensure full compliance with the directive.
