President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stepped in forcefully to halt the deepening political turmoil in Rivers State, issuing an unmistakable warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political foot soldiers to immediately cease all forms of interference in the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The President’s position, conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Policy Implementation, Daniel Bwala, leaves no room for ambiguity: Governor Fubara is the lawful, legitimate and undisputed leader of the ruling party in Rivers State and must be allowed to exercise his constitutional mandate without obstruction, intimidation or sabotage.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is deeply displeased with the prolonged power struggle in the oil-rich state, describing it as reckless, unnecessary and dangerous, with grave implications not only for Rivers State but for Nigeria’s overall stability.
The President warned that personal ambition, political entitlement and godfatherism will no longer be tolerated, stressing that no individual—regardless of past influence or political weight—has the right to hold Rivers State hostage.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara must be allowed to govern Rivers State in peace,” the Presidency declared, a statement widely interpreted as the strongest and most direct presidential intervention since the crisis erupted.
TINUBU DRAWS A RED LINE
Speaking emphatically on behalf of the President, Daniel Bwala made it clear that Nyesom Wike has received more than sufficient political accommodation at the federal level and has no justification whatsoever to continue exerting control over Rivers State from Abuja.
“The President’s position is final and unambiguous. Mr. Wike has been adequately compensated politically and must not continue to act in ways that undermine democratic governance, destabilize Rivers State or threaten national cohesion,” Bwala stated.
The Presidency further warned that any individual or group fueling instability, sponsoring parallel authority or obstructing the Rivers State government will be seen as acting against the national interest, with consequences that may follow.
Political observers say the message from Aso Rock is loud and clear:
Rivers State is not a personal estate. The era of shadow governance is over.
Governor Fubara, the Presidency affirmed, has full presidential backing to govern freely, decisively and without fear, while all disruptive forces have been firmly told to stand down—or face the full weight of state authority.
