In a bold step towards strengthening grassroots education in the Niger Delta, the Common Men Assembly (CMA) has officially launched its “Back to School 2026” initiative, an education-focused outreach targeted at improving learning conditions in underserved communities across Delta State.
The programme, which is scheduled to reach 25 communities across five Local Government Areas within one week, reflects CMA’s growing commitment to people-centered development, especially in riverine and rural areas where access to basic educational resources remains a challenge.
CMA, an organisation driven by young professionals from diverse fields, is implementing the initiative in partnership with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and the Godfrey Pondi Book Club, combining community advocacy with private-sector and civic support to bridge long-standing gaps in basic education.
Speaking at the flag-off, CMA Chairman and medical professional, Chief Angodideke Jude, described education as the bedrock of sustainable development. According to him, providing children with desks, books, and learning materials goes beyond charity, it is a deliberate investment in the future of communities and the state at large. He noted that the Back to School project has become a signature social intervention of the Assembly.
Day One: Desks, Books, and Renewed Hope
On the first day of the outreach, CMA teams visited selected primary schools in Burutu and Warri South West Local Government Areas, where tangible support met genuine need. Primary schools in Okosugbene, Orugbene, and Ofogbene each received 30 classroom desks, alongside other learning materials. Additional schools benefited from textbooks, school bags, and sandals, easing the daily learning burden on pupils from low-income households.
The distributed items were formally received on behalf of the schools and host communities by designated representatives, including:
Mrs. Ebiyerin Esiri for Benja-light Primary School, Okosugbene
Mr. Roland Government for Aprebodo Primary School, Izanza
Mrs. Serigbana Emomotimi for Ella Primary School, Ofogbene
A community representative for Akolobegba Primary School, Orugbene
Mr. Ebikanwei Amapere, Community Chairman, for Ekumu Primary School, Ekogbene
Mr. Oweikeniafa Ebi, Assistant Headmaster, for Egbondi Primary School, Bulou-Indoro.
Teachers and pupils alike expressed excitement and gratitude, with scenes from the schools reflecting renewed enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
More Than Materials, A Message of Hope
Beyond the desks and books, Back to School 2026 carries a deeper message: that children in the creeks and rural communities deserve the same educational foundation as their counterparts elsewhere. The smiles of pupils and the appreciation from educators underscored the impact of timely intervention.
As part of its mandate to spotlight positive, people-driven development across the Niger Delta, NigerDelta Voice commends initiatives such as this that directly uplift communities and invest in the next generation.
CMA has reaffirmed its resolve to continue grassroots actions that strengthen education, empower communities, and secure a brighter future for children across Delta State, proving that meaningful change often begins at the classroom level.
