The Ondo State Government has declared Monday, February 2, and Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as public holidays to enable residents to fully participate in activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The declaration was approved by the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as part of preparations for the Golden Jubilee celebration, a historic milestone that marks five decades of growth, resilience, and collective progress.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, who explained that the public holidays are intended to give citizens ample time to take part in the series of events scheduled for the anniversary.

According to the statement, the celebration presents a unique opportunity for reflection on Ondo State’s journey, achievements, and contributions since its creation. Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the people of the state to use the holiday period to actively engage in the jubilee celebrations, reflect on past accomplishments, and renew their commitment to the shared vision of building a more prosperous, peaceful, and united Ondo State.

The government, however, emphasized that essential service providers are expected to make necessary arrangements to ensure that critical services remain uninterrupted during the holiday period.

Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976, and the Golden Jubilee celebrations are expected to feature a range of cultural, social, and developmental activities highlighting the heritage and progress of the Sunshine State.
