Tension is quietly mounting within the Ijaw media space as the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) has officially locked February 13, 2026 as the date for its decisive national elections—an exercise many insiders describe as a battle for the soul and direction of the Forum.

In a statement released on Monday, January 19, 2026, the IPF, acting through its National Electoral Committee (N-ELECO), fired the starting gun for the contest by announcing the immediate sale of Expression of Interest Forms to qualified and registered members seeking to take control of the Forum’s leadership structure.

The powerful three-man Electoral Committee is chaired by Mr. Abai Francis, with Mr. Cletus Opukeme as Secretary and Mr. Anthony Demebide as member—figures now at the centre of a process that will determine who steers IPF at a critical moment in its history.

According to the notice, all major offices are up for grabs, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Public Relations Officer, and Welfare Officer, setting the stage for what observers predict will be a high-stakes, fiercely contested race.

Aspirants eyeing the top seat of President must cough out ₦100,000, while those contesting Vice President and Secretary are required to pay ₦90,000 each. All other positions attract ₦50,000, in addition to a mandatory, non-refundable ₦5,000 processing fee for every aspirant.

In a firm warning, the committee stated that all payments must be made strictly into Demebide Mienbibo Anthony’s Ecobank account (Account No: 2151169411), stressing that no refunds will be entertained under any circumstance—a clause that has already sparked intense behind-the-scenes discussions.

Interested members have been directed to obtain their forms exclusively through the Electoral Committee via 08037449157.
As consultations intensify and alliances quietly form, the atmosphere within IPF is rapidly heating up. With power, influence, and the future direction of the Forum at stake, February 13 is shaping up to be a defining and potentially explosive day for Ijaw publishers nationwide.
