In Bayelsa, Silence Spoke as Giants Came Calling.

In Bayelsa, Silence Spoke as Giants Came Calling.

Bayelsa wore a quiet look as familiar faces arrived, not for celebration, not for debate, but for a moment that demanded restraint. One after another, figures whose names rarely gather in the same breath stepped into the same space, drawn by an absence too heavy to ignore.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan came, so did Seriake Dickson, a former helmsman of the state. Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) arrived without fanfare, as did Dr. Dennis Otuaro, joined by others whose influence often travels ahead of them. This time, influence stood still, subdued by loss.

There were no grand pronouncements. No politics. Just measured words, nods, and long pauses that carried meanings left deliberately unsaid. The late Deputy Governor was spoken of not only as a man of office, but as a presence—one whose reach was felt more in moments than in monuments.

The gathering itself told a story. Rivals and allies stood side by side, united by something deeper than ideology. It hinted at a life that quietly stitched together differing paths, a life whose end has opened conversations without words.

As prayers drifted into the air and condolences changed hands, Bayelsa seemed to listen. The visitors eventually departed, leaving behind a stillness that lingered longer than their stay.

In that stillness lay the true headline: a chapter closed, a space left open, and a legacy that refuses to speak plainly—choosing instead to be felt.
