The people of Ogbia Kingdom, Bayelsa State, have marked a historic milestone following a high-powered courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The delegation, led by the paramount ruler of Ogbia Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Charles Owaba, comprised 16 prominent sons and daughters of the kingdom who converged on the seat of power to express gratitude and strengthen engagement with the Federal Government.
According to the delegation, the visit was primarily to appreciate President Tinubu for the appointment of indigenes of Ogbia Kingdom into key national positions. Top among the appointments is that of Dr Samuel Ogbuku as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Other appointees acknowledged include Hon. Justice Adume, Hon. Tonye Okio, and Barrister Obiene.
During the meeting, Dr Samuel Ogbuku formally introduced members of the delegation to the President, after which an official address was presented, conveying the appreciation and goodwill of the Ogbia people for the confidence reposed in their sons and daughters to serve the nation.
The delegation specifically commended President Tinubu for appointing Dr Ogbuku as head of the NDDC, describing his leadership as visionary, impactful, and result-driven. They noted that his stewardship has brought renewed purpose and credibility to the Commission, aligning with the President’s commitment to effective governance and sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
Beyond appreciation, the delegation also presented key developmental requests aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructural and environmental challenges in Ogbia Kingdom. These include the construction of the Akaba–Okodi Road to boost connectivity and economic activities, the establishment of a petroleum-related institute in Oloibiri—Nigeria’s historic first oil-producing community—construction of strategic bridges, and shoreline protection for erosion-prone communities.
In a strong show of political confidence, the delegation openly urged President Tinubu to seek re-election in 2027, pledging the total and unwavering support of the people of Ogbia Kingdom.
Responding, President Tinubu welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit and their support. He assured them that the issues raised would receive due attention, while commending Dr Samuel Ogbuku for what he described as commendable and impactful leadership at the NDDC.
The President noted that with capable sons of the Niger Delta like Dr Ogbuku serving within his administration, the aspirations of communities such as Ogbia Kingdom are achievable through collaboration and sustained engagement.
Observers have described the visit as a significant political and symbolic moment for Ogbia Kingdom, reinforcing its visibility, inclusion, and relevance at the highest level of national governance.
