Like a bolt from the blue, chaos descended upon the quiet lands of Ondo East, where two royal fathers — Oba Shina Olayele, the Olu of Igba, and HRH Moses Awonusi Apalara, the Olu of Uloko Agbonden — were whisked away by suspected land grabbers in what locals describe as a war over ancestral soil.
According to community sources, the invaders — allegedly led by one Ojo Ajisafe — came like “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” backed by armed men, to seize farmlands across Italemikan, Abusoro, Ateru, Igbomowo, and Uloko Agbonden communities. Crops were uprooted, farmers chased away, and the monarchs who stood their ground were taken like captives in their own kingdoms.
The people, now crying foul, say their heritage is being stolen “while the cock still crows at dawn.” They stormed Akure in protest, demanding justice and the immediate release of their monarchs.
An official of the state’s Agriculture Ministry has promised that the government is “on top of the matter”, assuring that peace will return soon.
As the dust settles, the people of Ondo whisper a timeless truth — “When the roots of the iroko are shaken, even the leaves tremble.” The fate of their kings now hangs in the balance, and the land itself seems to mourn.
