The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) has entered into a strategic partnership with Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc to implement a ₦1.2 billion community development plan in Edo State.
The initiative, according to both organizations, aims to promote inclusive growth, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local governance structures in host communities around Okomu’s operational areas.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Benin City, PIND’s Executive Director, Tunji Idowu, said the partnership underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development through collaboration with local stakeholders.
“This partnership will help communities identify and drive their own priorities in education, health, and enterprise development,” Idowu stated.
On his part, Okomu Oil’s Managing Director, Dr. Graham Hefer, said the project reflects the company’s belief in corporate responsibility and people-centered investment.
“We are investing not just in oil palm, but in people. This partnership will leave a lasting impact on the social and economic wellbeing of our host communities,” Hefer said.
The ₦1.2bn community development plan will span a three-year period, focusing on infrastructure improvement, women and youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
Stakeholders from the Edo State Government, traditional rulers, and civil society groups hailed the initiative as a model for public-private collaboration in the Niger Delta.
