The funeral rites of the late former Executive Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government and renowned educationist, Hon. Sunday E. Yayu, continued today as the Old Students Association of Ijaw National High School (INHS) paid a heartfelt tribute to the man many described as a mentor, disciplinarian, and nation-builder.
Led by the Snr. High Chief Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, the old students gathered to honour the memory of the iconic principal who shaped generations of Ijaw youths through his dedication to learning and character formation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Snr. High Chief Kuku described Late S.E. Yayu as “a great mould, a mentor of mentors, and a principal whose impact cannot be erased from the sands of time.”
He noted that many of the school’s alumni who today serve across various sectors in Nigeria and beyond owe their discipline, moral grounding, and academic strength to the leadership style of the late principal.
“He was more than a principal — he was a father. He taught us that knowledge without discipline is empty, and he lived by example,” Kuku said.
The old students, clad in customized association attire, filed past the remains of their former principal in a symbolic honour march during the Lying-in-State ceremony at Ijaw National High School premises, Arogbo . Their presence added emotional weight to the event, reflecting the deep respect the late Yayu commanded among former students.
Several alumni also shared memories of their days at Ijaw National High School, describing Late Yayu as a “firm but compassionate administrator” who insisted on excellence and unity within the school community.
The funeral rites continue as family, community leaders, colleagues, and dignitaries prepare for the final interment ceremonies scheduled to hold tomorrow.
Late Hon. Sunday E. Yayu is remembered not only as a public servant but also as a towering educational figure whose legacy continues to live in the thousands of students he mentored
