📘 Early Life & Education
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was born on 20th November 1957 in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Raised by humble parents who were canoe makers and farmers, Jonathan's childhood journey through the creeks shaped his character of resilience and simplicity.
He attended:
St. Stephen’s Primary School, Otuoke
Mater Dei High School, Imiringi
University of Port Harcourt, where he earned:
B.Sc. in Zoology
M.Sc. in Hydrobiology & Fisheries Biology
Ph.D. in Zoology
Before joining politics, he worked as:
A Science Teacher in a secondary School
A University Lecturer
An Environmental Protection Officer at OMPADEC
🏛 Rise in Public Service
Jonathan’s political journey is one marked by steady growth, integrity, and national service:
1998–2005: Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State
2005–2007: Governor of Bayelsa State
2007–2010: Vice President of Nigeria
2010–2015: President & Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
In 2011, he made history as the first Nigerian leader from the Niger Delta to be democratically elected as President.

1. Defender of Democracy
Jonathan is internationally recognized for his peaceful concession after the 2015 elections, famously saying:
