Niger Delta Netizens React to Proposed Computer-Based WAEC/NECO Exams Policy
By Niger Delta Voice Reporters — November 7, 2025
In an opinion poll conducted by Niger Delta Voice Reporters on its WhatsApp group on Friday, many Niger Delta netizens expressed mixed feelings over the Federal Government’s plan to introduce Computer-Based WAEC/NECO examinations beginning in 2026.
While some respondents welcomed the policy as a step toward modernization, others voiced concern over poor digital infrastructure in rural areas.
Reacting to the policy, Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, CEO Global Egberi Media International highlighted that;
"From my standpoint, the policy is visionary in concept but worrisome in timing. Undoubtedly, we live in a digital era where technology defines competitiveness. Moving national examinations to computer-based platforms can help curb malpractice, speed up result processing, and bring Nigeria in line with international standards. It can also inspire schools to improve digital literacy and make students more technologically aware — all positive outcomes for a modern society. However, the challenge lies in implementation and equality of access".
Also another Group Participant, in the Niger Delta Voice Reporters Whatsapp group while reacting on the poll said,
@Faith Owei, from Bayelsa State,
“It’s a good move that will prepare our students for global competitiveness, but the government must first equip schools with functional computer systems and steady power supply.”
However, another participant James Ebi, disagreed, saying:
“Most schools in the creeks don’t even have computers or internet access. This policy will only favor urban students and leave our children behind.”
The proposed policy is expected to take effect with the 2026 examination calendar, pending final approval by the Federal Ministry of Education.
