Background: The Federal Government’s flagship Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway — an ambitious 700-kilometre superhighway intended to link Victoria Island (Lagos) with Calabar (Cross River) — is now under construction under a public-private model. The project, led by Hitech Construction Company, has received syndicated financing for its first phase and is planned for delivery within an eight-year window, with the first section already being worked on in Lagos. 

Route — states, major towns and key nodes. Check if it will pass through your community.

The planned route runs along Nigeria’s southern corridor and — according to official and project documentation and reporting — will pass through nine states and a number of coastal towns and industrial nodes:

States: Lagos → Ogun → Ondo → Edo → Delta → Bayelsa → Rivers → Akwa Ibom → Cross River. 

Major start/end points and notable towns / nodes mentioned in project materials and media:

LAGOS: Start: Victoria Island / Eko Atlantic axis (Lagos) to Ahmadu Bello Way → Eleko Junction → Lekki coastal corridor → Ibeju-Lekki (close to Lekki Free Trade Zone and Dangote refinery approaches). The Lagos section being worked on includes these urban/coastal nodes. 

OGUN: From Lagos it will extend Ogun State through the Makun-Omi Axis (Ode-Omi a border area between 

Lagos and Ogun) stressing to Agbede Waterside to all coastal communities nearby in Ogun State 

ONDO: It will extend through the Agbede Rivers in Ogun to Join Ondo State through Ilaje Local Government Area: Ondo / Ilaje coast on the Araromi Seaside then to Igbokoda, Ayetoro, Awoye and others. Works and clearances have been reported around Ilaje (Ondo coastline). 

EDO: Edo State was lately Considered to be part of the Coastal highway and no detailed description is found so far however Clearance Operation have reportedly Started in Safarogbo Town already and it is reportedly going to Stress through Safarogbo in Ovia Southwest Local government,.Edo State to Ondo State. Analyst are contemplating if it will pass through Safarogbo to Adoloseimo to Biagbini for onward stressing to Ukparama connecting Ilaje Local Government.

DELTA: From Ilaje Communities it will Stretch to Delta State through Opuama, Escravos, Okerenkoko, Burutu, the highway is intended to give direct coastal access across Delta communities (e.g., Warri axis, coastal towns and riverine communities) and is expected to open new trade corridors for the region.

BAYELSA: From the Warri Axis it will Connect BAYELSA Rivers through Agge Town then Brass, Brass Island, Anyama-Ogbia and other riverine Creek Communities in BAYELSA.

RIVERS: From the BAYELSA Communities it will extend to Rivers state through Bonny Island, then to Finima, Opobo stretching to Port Harcourt through the Eleme Corridor.

AKWA-IBOM: From Elemo Corridor in Rivers it will Stretch to Ibeno Beach, Eket/Esit-Eket, Oron, Uyo Area (the highway will run through AKWA-IBOM coastal/Port towns).

CROSS RIVER: From the Coastal Port Towns in AKWA-IBOM the Coastal highway is expected to connect Cross River State through the Bakassi Area to Calabar South then Calabar-Itu and finally to the Calabar Terminal.
