Fresh controversy has trailed Lt. A.M. Yerima, as police operatives on patrol duty reportedly intercepted his vehicle on Tuesday morning after noticing he was driving with a concealed number plate, eyewitnesses narrated.
According to security sources, officers flagged down the navy officer’s car around the Area 11 axis of Abuja after observing that the rear number plate had been partially covered, making identification difficult.
The officers were said to have conducted routine checks before allowing him to proceed, but the incident has already sparked public chatter, coming barely days after Yerima survived an alleged assassination attempt and weeks after his clash with the FCT Minister.
A senior police officer familiar with the incident said:
“It was a normal stop-and-check operation. Any vehicle with a hidden or obscured number plate must be pulled over, regardless of who is inside.”
The Nigerian Police Force has not released an official statement, and the Navy has yet to comment.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
