The Ese-Odo Local Government Area, on Thursday, held a solemn yet dignified Lying-in-State ceremony in honour of its former Executive Chairman, Hon. Sunday E. Yayu, at the Council Secretariat in Igbekebo.

The late Hon. Yayu, a respected statesman, seasoned educationist, and stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was remembered for his unwavering commitment to public service. He served as a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly and later as Executive Chairman of Ese-Odo LGA from 2008 to 2009, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and community development.

Presiding over the ceremony on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Ms. Beauty Modimu Fayowole, Vice Chairman of Ese-Odo LGA, represented High Chief Caleb Ebimobowei Molos, who was unavoidably absent due to state assignments. She described the late leader as “a true son of Ese-Odo whose devotion to the progress of his people will never be forgotten.”

The event drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries from within and outside the Local Government. Among them were Snr High Chief Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, PhD, former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan; the Council Secretary, Pastor Fidelis Ola Egbukuyomi; the Council Chairperson, Mrs. Tibiebi Tope Molos; Chairman of Arogbo LCDA, Hon. Samuel Jemi; as well as Supervisors, Special Advisers, traditional leaders, and political associates.

Speakers described Hon. Yayu as a humble leader, a bridge-builder, and a dedicated public servant whose contributions to Ese-Odo remain indelible. Many noted that his years as a retired principal and political figure were marked by discipline, integrity, and an uncommon passion for community growth.

The ceremony, filled with emotion and reverence, served as a fitting farewell to a man who devoted his life to the service of his people.

May the soul of the departed former Council Chairman rest in perfect peace.
