Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the promotion of 4,921 workers and teachers due for elevation in 2025, even as his administration has recruited over 2,830 new employees to bolster the state’s public service.
The announcement was made in Akure by the Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Bayo Philip, during a press briefing to unveil activities marking the 2025 Ondo State Public Service Week.
Philip commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his continued commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly the massive recruitment drive in both primary and secondary education sectors.
He, however, warned against job racketeering within the system, cautioning that any civil servant found guilty of such misconduct would face strict disciplinary action.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, the HoS said:
“Under Governor Aiyedatiwa, all officers due for the 2025 promotion have received their letters, while preparations for the 2026 exercise are already in motion. This year alone, 3,089 mainstream officers and 1,832 teaching staff have been promoted.”
He added that the government has maintained prompt payment of salaries, allowances, and leave bonuses, while steadily offsetting inherited arrears of gratuities and pensions.
The HoS further noted that despite financial constraints, the administration has recruited over 2,830 professionals across health, education, justice, works, and forestry sectors since 2024, reflecting the governor’s resolve to rejuvenate the civil service.
Unveiling the programme of events, Philip disclosed that a health walk would take place on Wednesday, starting from the Adegbemile Cultural Centre to the Township Stadium, followed by a novelty football match between the Mainstream Service and Local Government teams.
A Public Service Lecture and Interactive Session will hold on Thursday at The Dome, featuring former Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, while Jumat prayers and Thanksgiving service are scheduled for Friday and Sunday, respectively.
In his goodwill message, Ondo NUJ Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his proactive approach to workers’ welfare, especially in the areas of promotion, pensions, and recruitment.
Similarly, the Chairman of the 2025 Public Service Week Committee, Mr. Segun Odusanya, assured that this year’s celebration would be memorable and impactful, reflecting the spirit of excellence driving the Ondo State Civil Service.
